Zombie…music? Cool!

20120419-104114.jpg

There’s all kinds of music out there. I like all kinds- and I’m sure you do too. It probably depends on beat, rhythm, lyrics, and the effect it has on you– otherwise why like music at all, right?

When I heard there was a genre of music that was “Steampunk” inspired – I was interested, and had to check it out on Youtube. I ran across Abney Park— a wise choice (my favorites are “Airship Pirates” and “Sleep Isabella“).

When I heard that there is ZOMBIE music, that doesn’t just have the word “zombie” in the songs, I had to find out what that was all about, too. As a writer, sometimes I sit in front of my computer searching for music to inspire certain tones that I want my scenes to convey.

I heard about Aaron Stoquert and I just needed to know what “zombie music” sounded like. I figured I’d hear a lot of heavy metal and moaning, to be quite honest. So, I was really surprised when I heard this crooning voice and this easy beat coming through my iPhone and before I knew it, I was really digging it.

My interest is not just because it’s deemed “zombie music”- although, obviously, I do enjoy the zombie genre and that interest lead me to the artist, but it was also one of those things that just “hit me” as enjoyable.

Aaron writes and performs his songs from what a zombie might think or feel, which I think is pretty interesting but I also kind of feel like some of the lyrics could convey what a person might feel in a “zombie state of being” after something like a bad break up, too. That was my feeling, anyway, while listening to some of the songs.

Now, it isn’t and won’t be for “everyone”, certainly. Not any more than Abney Park might be for some people- but I am hoping there will be a trend of zombie genre inspired music (like there has been with Steampunk genre music) to see what can be done with it from here.

Here’s a Youtube video and a sample of Aaron’s work, if you’re curious too:

You can find a CD or MP3 download here (or on iTunes):

“Ripper”

There is excellent news to report, for those who like to read stories that I’ve written.

My dark, horror, short story “Ripper” was accepted to be published by Sirens Call Publication’s April edition, eZine.

Not only am I excited to be a part of the edition, I’m also loving the fact that the figure on the cover-art has green eyes, just like I do. A complete chance happening but I do love the detail none-the-less 🙂

I’ll have information on the release date and where to purchase the online magazine copy on a later update but for now…

Check out that cover- each month has the same beauty, with different eye colors (so far).

Before Plan 9 – news

I’m excited to have received my author contributor’s copy of “Before Plan 9: Plans 1-8 from Outer Space” yesterday. Fans of Ed Wood’s old classic,”Plan 9 from Outer Space” will really get a kick out of this but I think the mash up of aliens playing around with (alternate) human history could be entertaining for anyone interested.

Look at this thing. It’s quite hefty. And look. My name is riiiighht there 🙂 Very exciting.

BAMCon in the news

Thanks to Jenn Smith at the Berkshire Eagle, the BAMCon event made the front page newspaper.

20120412-091156.jpg

In other fun news, I have personally gone from a fan of BAMCon coming to my area in general, to a woman who will be actually a part of the Zombie panel that the Zombie Action Committee will be presenting to attendee’s. 🙂 We will be discussing well…zombies. 🙂

Hope to see you there- at my first Con appearance about 2 subjects I love. Anime/Manga and zombies! How could it get better? 🙂

Cryptic in the Library

Awesome news for Cryptic.

As you can well imagine, I’ve been a reader far longer than I’ve been a writer. When I wasn’t buying books, I was borrowing them from the library whenever possible. Stacks to a time, sometimes (I’ve always been a fast reader. Too bad I don’t write as quickly as I read).

I’m happy to report that today The Berkshire Athenaeum – accepted my book “Cryptic” for future public library distribution. It’s exciting news, because…once? I sat there reading the books by other people- and now, I have one of mine- with my own name on it- there for others to read.

If you go over by that way, don’t forget to ask for it and check it out of the library when it’s added to the rotation. If you’re no where near here, don’t forget – it’s also available to order from Barnes & Noble and Amazon, too 🙂

Ah. Today is a good day 🙂
